Like many youths of the period, Larry and Joy had only a hazy view of the future: Neither was sure what to do. Soon after Larry graduated from high school in 1966, his family moved back to Virginia. At that time, Larry planned to go to college, possibly to become a dentist, but he still needed a summer job. So he joined his parents and went to work with a crew that was building a new library at the University of Virginia. In the fall, he returned to Texas and enrolled at El Centro Junior College.

He asked. “She’s really sick,” Little Peter said. ” Gailiunas tensed. ” he asked abruptly. “Yes,” replied Little Peter. ” “Then lock the door,” Gailiunas ordered, “and don’t let anyone in. ” Less than thirty minutes later the phone rang in the house where Little Peter lived with his mother. The boy answered it on the second ring. “Hello,” he whispered uncertainly. “Hello, Peter,” a man’s voice replied. “This is Larry Aylor. ” “She’s sick,” said the boy. ” Aylor asked. ” “Go get her,” Aylor instructed.
