We can certainly understand why the RTCSOTP is regarded as something more than a traditional relapse prevention-based program, given the range of treatment targets addressed. It was with this in mind that we developed what we called an integrated approach to RNR (RNR-I), which is described in detail in Chapter 5.

It was with these limitations in mind that we decided to write this book. This perspective is supported by research findings in a variety of domains. Needless to say, the application of such skills as applied to high-risk groups of offenders requires a certain degree of commitment and patience from staff involved in such programs. Nonetheless, as discussed by Marshall & Burton (2010) there are few studies that have specifically addressed the relative contributions of these two admittedly important aspects of treatment efficacy at least as related to sex offender treatment.
