You can also add a layer of thin foam under the vinyl covering on M to create a padded landing for putting your feet up. To cover the pieces, lay the vinyl facedown on a flat surface, and set each wood piece on top. Mark the cloth so it’s about 2½" larger than the wood in all directions. Cut the cloth with scissors. If you will pad M, cut the foam to the same size as the wood, and increase the margin of the vinyl by the thickness of the foam on each side. Tightly wrap the vinyl to cover the top faces and all edges of each wood piece, securing the edges of the vinyl to the underside of the wood with staples.
Mark a light pencil line where the triangles overlap so you’ll know where to apply glue. Clamp the pieces together, making sure their tops are flush. Use a pilot-countersink bit to drill pilot holes for screws, following the pattern shown in the diagram, or as desired (the screw heads will be exposed). Drill slight countersinks so the screw heads will be just flush with the surface. Glue the pieces together and secure with screws. Repeat with the remaining three leg assemblies. 3. Install the bench supports.
Set the nails slightly below the surface with a nail set. Fill the nail holes with color-matched wood putty, then spot-finish the putty with polyurethane. Install the casters at the corners of the base unit to complete the project. 7. Assemble the table. Assemble the parts as shown in the exploded drawing, using 1¼" drywall screws driven through countersunk pilot holes. Space the screws about 4" apart, keeping all outer screws at least ⅜" from the panel edges. Have a helper hold the mating pieces as you drill pilot holes, or use clamps as needed.
