We think it is expedient to call this section of medical pharmacology, geriatric pharmacosanation. Here it should be noted that rational nutrition, in other words, alimentary pharmacosanation, has a primary role in the prophylaxis of premature ageing and of prolonging life. Quite a large number of medicines may be considered as suitable for geriatric pharmacosanation.

Similar work is being conducted by scientific research institutes and pharmaceutical firms in several countries. Here is one of the interesting results of work along these lines. It was discovered over 40 years ago that human seminal fluid causes uterine musculature contractions. Then allied substances were found in the majority of tissues, but their primary importance as secretions of the prostrate glands led to their name: prostaglandins. Now many prostaglandins have been isolated and a method of synthesizing these substances devised.
