He straightened and slammed the trunk. His own backpack looked even heavier than hers, and he had a utility belt to boot.
She let the curtain drop and vanished from view. “I know,” she said from the next room. ” Babu pushed through the curtain into the back room while Angrel lit candles with a plastic cigarette lighter. She sat down at the room’s tiny table and laid a purple cloth over it with a practiced flourish. ” She offered Babu a seat. In the candlelight, her bleach white skin looked like carved stone, and her white dreadlocks like Medusa’s hair. Babu shook his head and reminded himself that this was part of her persona.
